The first holy communion, a very important day in a catholic girl’s life. The excitement of going up to the altar and getting the first piece of bread, there’s nothing quite like it. On top of this, you receive a lot of presents, but what better than to celebrate this special day with a bespoke cross pendant? It will always remind my niece Charlotte of that very special day.
The brief was to create a truly unique and bespoke cross pendant with necklace. Charlotte’s favourite colour is blue, so to personalise the necklace even more I decided to work with a blue gem as well. For a special twist to the design, the cross pendant was integrated into the necklace and not at the bottom. A sky blue topaz briolette and a tear shaped silver pendant were to be the pendant in the centre. I handmade the cross pendant from two pieces of sterling silver sheet, carefully sawing, filing and soldering them into the right shape. The topaz and tear shaped pendant were soldered to the chain with a jumpring, so they wouldn’t move around and the clasp at the back would not move to the front.
Charlotte was delighted when she received her first holy communion cross, as a special treat for her, I engraved the cross with her name.
