I was delighted when Dan contacted me and asked me to design a bespoke necklace for his sister’s 30th birthday. I turned 30 myself not so long ago, so I know how important the day can be and how lovely it is to receive a commemorative piece of jewellery to mark the occasion. I was excited to have the opportunity to make a bespoke necklace for such a special occasion.
Dan and I met to discuss ideas, and he showed me some pieces of the birthday girl’s current jewellery collection. We decided that a medium to large size necklace would suit her style. I sent Dan some initial design sketches, and he was immediately able to pick his favourite. We thought that this design would work best handmade in sterling silver with black pearls. To help him further visualise the finished piece, I create the design on the computer using CAD.
Throughout the process, I kept Dan up to date by sending him images of the piece at various stages. Dan was able to send me feedback at each stage and make any last minute tweaks to the design he wanted. I hand delivered the bespoke necklace to him, ready to give to his sister on her 30th birthday. A few weeks later, Dan messaged me to say that she LOVED her bespoke necklace – great news! He told me that she’d loved the piece and thought that it fit in well with her other jewellery pieces.
